FOLAWEMI UMUNNA
Managing Director
Folawemi, a renewable energy professional is passionate about policies, technologies and markets that supports Global Sustainability. She has a wealth of 20+ years’ work experience spanning across Oil & Gas, FMCG, Technology and Energy Transition sectors. A Warwick University UK graduate with an MSc. in Supply Chain Management (Major in Sustainability), Folawemi has relevant and practical experience in working her community to explore and develop Climate Actions and Sustainable Entrepreneurship. An Alumni of two U.S. exchange programs, she was a participant of the prestigious U.S. Department of State funded IVLP on Climate Change, and partners with the U.S. Department of State on various climate projects in Nigeria. She is an ISO 14064-1 certified professional in Greenhouse Gas Inventories and Measuring Carbon Footprint, a Galileo Master in Developing and Managing Hydrogen Energy projects, and a Galileo Master in Renewable Energy Management and Finance. She is the convener of the Inaugural Lagos Greenhouse Gas Inventory Stakeholders’ forum.
She is a member, CSA (Greenhouse Gas Standards) Group, Canada; Member, The Renewable Energy Institute, UK; and member, Harvard Business Review (HBR) council.
JOHN ATAKPA
Project Director
John’s earlier career in oil & gas at Baker Hughes gave him an insider’s perspective on the challenges of traditional energy markets, where he managed high-value projects, optimized remote operations, and spearheaded emissions reduction efforts. Transitioning into renewables and sustainability, he leveraged that knowledge to lead carbon crediting strategies, sustainability reporting, and technology optimization projects in the USA and other indigenous entities in Nigeria. With an M.Phil. in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and a First-Class B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, John combines technical acumen with strategic foresight. A PROSCI-certified Change Leader, PMP certified Project Management professional, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt holder, John brings systems thinking, policy expertise, and market intelligence to drive impactful projects at Kingsmen Energy.
His thought leadership extends beyond corporate transformation; he is an active member of the International Society for Sustainability Professionals, Cambridge Alumni for Sustainability, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Project Management Institute, the Institute of Engineering and Technology, UK and an associate member of the Energy Institute further solidifying his expertise in global energy and sustainability conversations. John is being instrumental in helping industries reduce Scope 2 emissions and transition to cleaner power solutions by leading the expansion of renewable energy technologies into underserved markets and hard-to-abate sectors.
John is more than an energy specialist or project manager; he is a catalyst for change, helping industries and governments turn sustainability goals into tangible results - one policy, one project, and one innovation at a time.
EKEMINI JOHN
Technical Director
Ekemini, a Senior Energy Market Analyst | Energy Systems & Sustainability Expert, is a result-driven energy professional specializing in power market analysis, energy modeling, and sustainable energy solutions. As a technical director, she provides strategic insights on power markets, price forecasting, and energy optimization for clients across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. He holds an M.Sc. in Energy Systems from the University of Oxford and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Uyo (Honors). With expertise in energy modeling, Python-based analytics, API automation, and power grid planning, Ekemini has worked across technical, research, and advisory roles in energy markets and renewable energy.
A recognized Commonwealth Scholar and Rhodes Finalist, she has contributed to global energy discourse as a panelist for the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) and a technical coordinator for the Inclusive Techno-preneurship Forum. She is also actively involved in sustainability initiatives with UN Local Pathway Fellowship.
