JOHN ATAKPA
Project Director
John’s earlier career in oil & gas at Baker Hughes gave him an insider’s perspective on the challenges of traditional energy markets, where he managed high-value projects, optimized remote operations, and spearheaded emissions reduction efforts. Transitioning into renewables and sustainability, he leveraged that knowledge to lead carbon crediting strategies, sustainability reporting, and technology optimization projects in the USA and other indigenous entities in Nigeria. With an M.Phil. in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and a First-Class B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, John combines technical acumen with strategic foresight. A PROSCI-certified Change Leader, PMP certified Project Management professional, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt holder, John brings systems thinking, policy expertise, and market intelligence to drive impactful projects at Kingsmen Energy.
His thought leadership extends beyond corporate transformation; he is an active member of the International Society for Sustainability Professionals, Cambridge Alumni for Sustainability, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Project Management Institute, the Institute of Engineering and Technology, UK and an associate member of the Energy Institute further solidifying his expertise in global energy and sustainability conversations. John is being instrumental in helping industries reduce Scope 2 emissions and transition to cleaner power solutions by leading the expansion of renewable energy technologies into underserved markets and hard-to-abate sectors.
John is more than an energy specialist or project manager; he is a catalyst for change, helping industries and governments turn sustainability goals into tangible results - one policy, one project, and one innovation at a time.
